Advocacy

The Disabilities Resource Centre Trust also provides an advocacy service.
This service provides people with information, skills and assistance needed to make informed decisions. Sometimes this means getting someone else to assist removing a “roadblock” which a disabled person may be experiencing (i.e. Knowing your rights when visiting GP).

We assist with:
• Sources of funding
• Privacy matters
• Rights and responsibilities and
• Self-advocacy skills.

Complaints with regard to levels of service, benefits or treatment are normally handled by local independent advocates (who are not employed with the DRCT). If really big the complaint may be lodged with the Health and Disabilities Commission or the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC).
