Home Care

Home Care service is ideally suited to assist people with disabilities or older people. It involves the provision of personal care and home help.

  • Basic Housework?
  • Laundry and Ironing?
  • Shopping?
  • Meal Preparation?
  • Personal Care?

There are two areas of care available for people:

Home Help
Home Help is described as domestic management, i.e. vacuuming, meal preparation, shopping, laundry and ironing etc.
Personal Care
Personal Care comprises of assistance for personal tasks such as showering, dressing etc.  

Eligibility:       
In order for someone to receive Home Help or Personal Care the person must undergo a Needs Assessment by a needs assessment agency called Support Net. People can self-refer to Support Net for an assessment or be referred by a General Practitioner (GP) or hospital staff, or Disabilities Resource Centre Trust can make a referral for you.

Home Care Rights and Responsibilities

Client Responsibilities

When receiving home care services you have the following responsibilities:
1.  To acknowledge that you have a partnership of mutual trust and respect with your Careworker.
2.  Treat your Careworker with dignity and respect.
3.  Do not verbally or physically abuse your Careworker.
4.  Provide your Careworker a safe working environment.
5.  Provide your Careworker a smoke free work place.
6.  Advise your Careworker if there is a change to your condition or in the level of  support required.
7. Advise the Home Care Services staff if you will be away on holiday or out at appointments.
8. Provide cleaning equipment, such as a bucket, mop, vacuum and cleaning products such as jif and janola.
9. Do not expect or request your Careworker to perform duties such as cleaning ceilings, outside windows, climbing on ladders or gardening as they are not currently services that we provide.
10. Do not request personal information from your Careworkers such as their home telephone numbers as it is our policy not to provide this information.
11. Do not give Careworkers gifts.
12. Any concerns you have about the service being provided should be passed to the Home Care Services Co-ordinators.
