Mobility
Often public transport is not practicable or suitable for people with disabilities (including the elderly who may just be too frail to utilise the public transport system safely). The Disabilities Resource Trust can help with our Total Mobility Scheme or with other forms of Travel Assistance.
Total Mobility
In Whakatane alone, there are some 300 people who have Total Mobility ID cards and receive a 50% discount on their taxi travel. Funded by Environment Bay of Plenty (the Regional Council) the ID cards provide people with a safe means of travel to attend work, the supermarket and/or complete their supermarket shopping.
Travel Assistance
People with disabilities are eligible to receive Travel Assistance to attend the initial medical consultation with a specialist.
