Total Mobility
Subsidised taxi vouchers are available to people with disabilities that complete a assessment with the Disabilities Resource Centre Trust.
Often public transport is not practicable or suitable for people with disabilities (including the elderly who may just be too frail to utilise the public transport system safely).
If successful following an assessment (which costs $36.50) people will receive an Identification Card (I.D. Card) that they can use.
In Whakatane alone, there are some 300 people who have Total Mobility ID cards and receive a 50% discount on their taxi travel. Funded by Environment Bay of Plenty (the Regional Council) the ID cards provide people with a safe means of travel to attend work, the supermarket and/or complete their supermarket shopping.
